15 February 2012
Never organise two workshops in two days. The stress levels are substantial. However I have to say it is wonderful having Maxine Papadakis from UCSF in the UK, she is a lovely lovely person, and we are accompanied by Helen O'Sullivan (Liverpool), Charlotte Rees (Dundee), Lynn Monrouxe (Cardiff) and Liz Anderson (HEA). All powerful women used to getting their own way, so even deciding what and where the six of us would eat on Valentines night (apologies to their respective other halves) was a challenge.
The GDC is running three workshops in London in February 2012 in order to introduce the new Learning Outcomes 2011, and MEDEV has organised a complimentary event to introduce the new Health Sciences staff from the Higher Education Academy and pick up on aspects of the new learning outcomes that appear to be most challenging around professionalism, leadership and fitness to practice for the dental teams.
Kevin O'Brien, President of the GDC is currently speaking about the new learning outcomes to our 40-odd audience of dental educators (dentists, dental care professionals including hygienists and therapists, dental nurses, technologists, and educators). Paul Feeney and Ross Scales are also here from the GDC, thanks to them for supporting this event, which is intended very much as part of a continuum as education providers and their NHS partners adapt their programmes to the new standards.
Will blog more later as the day unfolds. Megan
