Maxine Papadakis is in Newcastle and is speaking on the need for remediation following identification of poor professional conduct. She noted that asking a failed student to repeat a rotation, semester or year is not a solution, as they may simply become more 'toxic' and they are still out in circulation and exhibiting poor behaviour in front of patients, other students and staff.
We have a group of 16 avid listeners considering the inclusion of questions in student feedback - treated me/others with respect.
Release of evaluations of staff by students (anonymised) is not released until after the grades have been posted, to increase safety.
There are issues identifed relating to individuals, and there are issues identified relating to organisations/systems. This could be a consequence of prioritising patient interests at the expense of the student learning opportunity.
She has recommended the UTMB Professionalism website.
