Outline of Director's placements
Introduction
DIVERSE is a collaborative project between The Royal Veterinary College (RVC) and the veterinary schools at Bristol, Cambridge and Liverpool universities. The Director of DIVERSE will be based at RVC, the lead institution, for the three years of the project. As the success of the project will require the full engagement of each partner, however, she will carry out short placements at the other three schools.
Issues of confidentiality
It should be made clear that the Director of DIVERSE will carry out these placements within an agreed framework of confidentiality. Although placements will contribute to the overall outcomes of the project, no local information will be released externally without the written permission of the local DIVERSE Project Steering Group member.
Organisation of activities during placements
Placements will be tailor made to the needs of each institution, although they will also be used to ensure progress in the different parts of the overall project. It is envisaged that some of the staff development days organised within the project will take place during the Director’s placement at a particular institution. The Director will also use the opportunity to liaise with the local disability officers so that project outcomes can be transmitted both ways.
The possible range of activities will therefore include:
- Work relating to either the Competences Matching Exercise or the EMS Accessibility Project
- Examination of policies and procedures relating to students with disabilities within the local veterinary school.
- Observation of local student casework, in conjunction with the local disability office and in accordance with local confidentiality policies and the agreed permission of individual students.
- Organisation of local staff development day, to be attended only by staff at the individual veterinary school, the disability office or other university staff where appropriate.
- Briefing meetings with local staff from departments such as admissions, student administration, examinations, registry, human resources, occupational health, health and safety, student support
- Meetings with local students on either an individual or a group basis.
All activities must be agreed upon with the local DIVERSE Project Steering Group representative, to whom the DIVERSE Director will report for local issues and activities during each placement.
