Professionalism is an important issue across all of the health professions, including but not limited to nursing, midwifery, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, health professions including occupational health, social work, etc. The regulatory bodies expect higher education to recognise, teach and assess professionalism, which manifests itself in a range of behaviours.
The HPC is currently consulting on 'fitness to practice and registration' (http://www.hpc-uk.org/aboutus/consultations/index.asp?id=131), and the other regulatory bodies have focussed extensively on evidencing professionalism in the past.
This highly intereactive one day workshop features renowned international expert Professor Maxine Papadakis and UK colleagues facilitating discussion of what professionalism means in higher health care education, and how to evidence and promote it.

Dr Lynn Monrouxe, Cardiff University and Professor Charlotte Rees, University of Dundee, investigators of a project looking into Professionalism dilemmas in work based learning: personal incident narratives of dental, nursing, pharmacy and physiotherapy students and similar work in medicine funded by the Association for the Study of Medical Education.
