Introduction

The term OER was coined in 2002 to describe shared electronic learning and teaching materials which (typically) have clearly identifiable Creative Commons licensing arrangements indicating how they can be repurposed in teaching and learning.

PublishOER: Investigating new business models for including published works in OER

The PublishOER project is funded under phase 3 of the HEA JISC UKOER programme, and seeks to develop new ways of complementing the OER resource collections with high quality published content by investigating new business models for embedding published works in open educational resources.

MEDEV was lucky to be awarded two projects under the Open Educational Resources Programme Phase 2.

ACTOR - Accredited Clinical Teaching Open Resources (OMAC project).

The ACTOR project sought to build on an existing community of practice (RAFTT) in order to increase the sharing, repurposing and utilisation of educational development resources for PG Certificate clinical education programmes.

PORSCHE - Pathways for Open Resource Sharing through Convergence in Healthcare Education (OER 2 A(i) 18d). Seamless access to academic and clinical learning resources for healthcare students.

PORSCHE was a one year project funded under the UKER phase 2 programme. It involved a partnership between the NHS eLearning Repository (London Deanery) (NeLR) and the Higher Education Academy Subject Centre for Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine (MEDEV).

These two projects built on the findings of the phase 1 pilot project funded under HEA JISC UKOER programme and entitled OOER.

The Higher Education Academy and JISC are working in partnership to develop the HEFCE-funded Open Educational Resources (OER) programme, supporting UK higher education institutions in sharing their teaching and learning resources freely online across the world.

Building on the work of a pilot which took place between April 2009 and March 2010, a second phase of projects and activities is now running until August 2011.  This phase will extend the range of materials openly available, document benefits offered by OER to those involved in the learning process, and promote collections of OER materials. Such resources might include full courses, course materials, complete modules, videos, assessments, tests, simulations, worked examples or software.
