Headline: New and updated dental, oral and allied health, and food safety tutorials from Intute: Health and Life Sciences
Story: New and revised health and life sciences tutorials have been released today as part of the Virtual Training Suite. The tutorials are as follows:
Internet for Allied Health - new edition
Internet for Pharmacy - new edition
Internet for Dentistry and Oral Health - new edition
Internet for Food Safety - brand new tutorial
Internet for Plant Science - brand new tutorial
These tutorials are completely free to access, and aim to help university and college students develop internet research and information skills. Each tutorial has four main sections:
1. Tour - focuses on the academic information landscape on the internet and aims to create for students a mental map of the key scholarly sources for their subject.
2. Discover - offers updated guidance on how to find scholarly information online, how to choose the right search tool, and how to develop a search strategy.
3. Judge - discusses how critical thinking can improve the quality of online research and provides guidance on how to judge which internet resources are appropriate for university work.
4. Success - provides practical examples of students using the internet for research - successfully and unsuccessfully, so that students can learn from the mistakes of others, as well as by example.
Students can use the tutorials for self-directed, independent learning.
Lecturers and librarians can easily list them as resources in course handbooks, VLEs and websites, or use them as learning resources to support courses in research methods, information literacy or study skills.
